Adverse media screening
Sanctions and PEP lists tell you who’s already flagged. Adverse media tells you who’s being reported — the fraud case, the regulatory action, the investigation — often before it reaches a formal list. Zanyara screens for it and keeps the noise down.
What we look for
- Financial-crime risk — fraud, money laundering, bribery and corruption, sanctions evasion, trafficking, terrorism financing.
- Credible coverage — categorised by risk type so a reviewer sees relevance at a glance, not an undifferentiated pile of links.
- The right entity — entity resolution disambiguates common names so John Smith the customer isn’t tarred by John Smith the fraudster.
Fewer false positives, by design
Adverse media is where naive screening generates the most noise. Zanyara reduces it with entity resolution and risk categorisation up front, then routes genuinely ambiguous matches to human maker-checker review — so analysts spend time on real risk, not on clearing namesakes.
Part of AML screeningAdverse media runs alongside sanctions and PEP screening in one call, and continues under ongoing monitoring after the customer is live.
Frequently asked questions
- What is adverse media screening?
- Adverse media (or “negative news”) screening checks whether a person or business is linked in credible sources to financial crime — fraud, money laundering, corruption, trafficking, terrorism and similar. It catches risk that isn’t yet on a formal sanctions or PEP list, which is why regulators expect it as part of due diligence.
- How do you avoid drowning in false matches?
- Two ways: entity resolution (matching the right person, not everyone who shares a name) and risk categorisation (only surfacing financial-crime-relevant coverage, not any mention). Remaining ambiguous hits go to a human reviewer rather than auto-failing the customer.
- Is it a one-time check?
- It can run at onboarding and then continuously. Add the customer to ongoing monitoring and new adverse media raises an alert when it appears, not at the next annual review.
