Onfido is now Entrust IDV: what it means for customers
If you built on Onfido, you may have noticed the brand changing. Onfido was acquired by Entrust and its identity-verification product is now Entrust IDV. Here’s a straight, vendor-neutral summary of what actually changed, a checklist for your next renewal, and an honest note on where a focused alternative — like us — might fit.
What happened
Entrust, a long-established identity and security company, entered exclusive discussions to acquire Onfido in February 2024 and completed the acquisition on 9 April 2024 (terms undisclosed, widely reported at around $650 million). Onfido’s document and biometric verification technology has since been folded into Entrust’s portfolio and rebranded Entrust IDV — third-party listings now read “Entrust IDV, formerly Onfido.”
Practically, the product and its APIs continue; what shifts around them is the brand, the commercial relationship, and the strategic direction — Onfido’s standalone IDV is now one part of a much broader identity-and-security suite.
What Onfido customers should check at renewal
An acquisition doesn’t force you to do anything today, but it’s a sensible moment to review your contract with clear eyes. A neutral checklist:
- Pricing & packaging. Compare your current per-check economics against the renewal quote — watch for suite bundling, new minimums, or enterprise-tier repackaging.
- Roadmap fit. Confirm the capabilities you depend on remain first-class priorities, not legacy line items inside a larger portfolio.
- Support & account continuity. Check whether your support tier, SLAs and account contacts carry over unchanged.
- SDK & API stability. Ask about any planned SDK migrations, deprecations or version end-of-life dates that would mean engineering work.
- Data residency & compliance. Re-confirm where your applicants’ data is processed and stored, and that it still meets your regulatory obligations.
- Exit terms. Know your notice period, data-export options and contractual off-ramp before you sign the next term.
Weighing alternatives
If the review surfaces a mismatch — on price, focus, or data residency — it’s worth seeing what a focused, IDV-first provider looks like. In the interest of full disclosure: we’re one.
Zanyara is a UK-based identity-verification and KYC platform that does one thing: verify who your customers are. Document verification (including NFC chip reading), face match and activeand passive liveness, AML sanctions/PEP/adverse-media screening with ongoing monitoring, and human review — in one API and console. We’re ICO-registered with UK data residency and transparent per-check pricing. We’re a newer, smaller company than Entrust; that’s the honest trade-off — a focused product and direct support versus a broad enterprise suite. Evaluate both against your checklist above.
